Présentation de l'Unité



L’Unité Mixte de Recherche (UMR) 5140 est un laboratoire de recherches en archéologie entièrement voué à l’étude des sociétés de la Méditerranée, de la Préhistoire au Moyen Age. À l’ampleur géographique et chronologique de ses programmes, conduits par six équipes structurées, répond la multiplicité de ses objets d’études et de ses types d’approches.  Héritier de plusieurs unités antécédentes, le laboratoire inscrit son activité scientifique dans le cadre d’un contrat quadriennal (2011-2014) passé entre le CNRS, le Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication, l’Université Paul Valéry Montpellier III et l’INRAP. Il compte aujourd’hui près de cent cinquante membres statutaires issus de ces quatre institutions partenaires — chercheurs, enseignants-chercheurs, ingénieurs, techniciens et administratifs, doctorants.

Le Labex ArcHiMedE (Archéologie et Histoire de la Méditerranée et de l’Egypte anciennes) porté par l’Université Paul-Valéry – Montpellier 3 et plus spécialement l’UMR5140 Archéologie des Sociétés Méditerranéennes, classé A+ par le jury international d’évaluation des Labex, a été retenu dans le cadre de l’appel à projets des Investissements d’Avenir.
Le labex ArcHiMedE a pour ambition de constituer autour de l’Université Paul Valéry de Montpellier un pôle d’excellence en matière de recherche et de formation sur la Méditerranée et l’Egypte anciennes. Le labex ArcHiMedE réunit ainsi l’ensemble des chercheurs, enseignants-chercheurs, ingénieurs et techniciens de l’UMR « Archéologie des sociétés méditerranéennes » (UM3, CNRS, MCC, INRAP) et de l’USR « Centre franco-égyptien d’étude des temples de Karnak » du CNRS et des enseignants-chercheurs des Équipes CRISES de l’UM3 et CRHiSM de l’UPVD.
